High quality indoor air has more dimensions than might first meet the eye. Besides providing freshness and comfort for those working in a building, it can significantly improve work efficiency.
Research shows that when it comes to demanding working environments, such as professional restaurant kitchens, good ventilation plays an important role also in saving energy costs – and even lives. In professional kitchens, temperatures typically climb well above ideal levels for working, while grease and soot particles in ducts increase the risk of fire.
“Compared to other people, the average lifespan of a restaurant chef can be up to seven years shorter,” says Urmas Hiie, CEO at ETS NORD, a company that has specialized in ventilation systems for over 25 years. “In addition to tough working conditions and long hours, the difference is largely due to poor quality indoor air.”
The importance of indoor air quality
ETS NORD works in close collaboration with architects, designers, and construction and installation companies to create high-quality ventilation systems that provide a healthy indoor climate. With nine companies operating in four different countries – Estonia, Finland, Sweden and, most recently, United Arab Emirates – ETS NORD has grown into one of the largest ventilation companies in northern Europe, with its own presence in UAE. While the climates may be quite different among ETS NORD’s operating countries, the basic needs of end customers are much the same.
Consequently, it is no surprise the company’s own NORDcanopy kitchen ventilation system has already attracted substantial interest in the United Arab Emirates.
“Our well-designed system filters the air efficiently, and the sophisticated cleaning system makes it possible to extract the air without causing any harm to the environment,” Urmas Hiie explains.
“ETS NORD works in close collaboration with architects, designers, and construction and installation companies."
Since about 17% of global greenhouse gas emissions come from energy use in buildings, energy-saving solutions must be used to decrease the carbon footprint. NORDcanopy ventilation system cools the incoming air by up to 12 degrees, which decreases cooling costs by requiring less energy to decrease the kitchen temperature.
Concerning transportation, NORDcanopy offers a competitive advantage on this front as well.
The kitchen ventilation system’s unique modular structure supports quick and easy self-assembly. But what is perhaps even more interesting, its package size is three times smaller than those required by other large, welded canopies.
The use of modules is particularly helpful in delivering ventilation solutions to restaurants located in high-rise buildings. Thanks to modularity and small packaging, it is easy to bring the kitchen ventilation system to top floors in an elevator. This saves time and money, compared to using a crane to haul up an ordinary kitchen canopy constructed in one piece.
“The modular structure of our commercial kitchen canopy has made it possible for us to establish our own warehouse in Dubai,” Urmas Hiie points out. “This contributes to prompt deliveries and quick assembly on site, which our UAE customers appreciate.”
Precision as the backbone for uncontested quality
Thanks to investments in the sophisticated production process, NORDcanopy solutions can be easily assembled from modules, just like Lego blocks, without compromising quality, precision, or performance. Special design software allows the creation of an exact digital twin out of the ventilation system to help customers select the right setup, supported by laser robots that utilize top-notch production technologies to ensure precision.
Urmas Hiie emphasizes ETS NORD’s role as a provider of comprehensive ventilation solutions that, while stylish to look at, get the job done every time. Every successful project begins with a close look at the individual needs of each customer because every kitchen is different and every chef has personal preferences. NORDcanopy modular structure is particularly beneficial because it allows to rearrange the modules whenever the layout of the kitchen changes.
“Alongside our NORDcanopy modules, we provide uncontested delivery excellence and all necessary information, as well as technical and maintenance support throughout the solution lifecycle. We take care of your indoor climate, and that is all that matters.”
